There aren’t many left. Only tiny family lives under the floorboards in the kitchen. They borrow crumbs and spools and pins and matchboxes (Look at the pictures!) They are incredibly brave. Wonderful to read aloud or to yourself.

Like a lot of Thurber, his book is the perfect mix of awesomely weird and weirdly awesome. Surreal, very funny and a top-notch read-aloud. (Be prepared to improvise melodies -- some things just have to be sung.) – Edward
